TPR Tempranillo 2008

Deep inky purple/black in colour.

Savoury and complex almost rustic notes on nose. Plum, dark berry fruit, with fruitcake-like aromas. Earthy and spicy characters derived from oak.

Palette is true to varietal: complex/savoury/rustic/earthy with good initial fruit sweetness, smooth rounded mid-palette, and drying savoury tannin structure. Persistence of flavour is exceptional, as is the integration of fruit/oak/acid/tannin. Small batch basket-pressed ferments, hand plunged, minimal intervention. Mix of indigenous and selected yeasts give good complexity. Blend of older American and French barriques (225l) give background oak structure. Mid to full bodied.

Sourced from a single vineyard of good age in the Broke-Fordwich subregion of the Hunter Valley. The soils and warm-to-hot mesoclimate support the growth of Tempranillo very well.

Tempranillo is the traditional grape of Spain’s famous Rioja and Ribero vineyards.

Cellaring Potential of 10-12 years

13.5% alcohol.
